Glenmore Wind Energy Facility

In early 1998, two wind turbines were built on a farm near Green Bay to determine the feasibility of generating electricity from the wind in Wisconsin.

To operate at full capacity, the turbines need consistent 30 mph winds. Together they will generate 1,200 kilowatts of electricity and at full capacity, the turbines will meet the annual energy needs of about 450 homes. Historical records indicate wind speeds at the location and elevation of the project average around 13 mph. Research data will be collected for five years.

Installation costs of the Low Wind Speed Turbine Project were $2.1 million.

The wind turbines are owned and operated by Wisconsin Public Service Corporation which provides electricity and natural gas products and services to residential, farm, commercial and industrial customers in northeastern Wisconsin and an adjacent portion of Upper Michigan.
