Project Details

Project Objective:

To install, operate and report on the performance of two new utility-scale wind turbines. The average wind speed of the site is 13.6 mph; therefore the wind turbines are optimized for low wind resource.

The turbines became operational in February 1998.

Site Location:

From Green Bay take Hwy 57 south of De Pere to County Hwy PP. Take Hwy PP South five miles and turn left on Shirley Rd.

After traveling 3 more miles you should see the turbines on the right side of the road.

Site Description: Site is agricultural use.

Grid Interconnection: 24.9 kV underground distribution feeder

Average Site Wind Speed:

13.6 mph (measured over 5 years at 110 ft.)

Winter months yield the highest averages with little variation between night and day. During summer months the wind speeds are two to three miles per hour stronger in the late afternoon than in the early mornings.

Wind Direction: The wind direction is predominately westerly with approximately 40% of the winds out of the southwest.
